A long time ago, there was a man named alabi.

Alabi was a very famous fisherman in his small village, people know him from far and near because of his fame.

Alabi was  content, he had two wives and 12 children.

One evening, alabi went fishing as usual, when he was about to throw his net into the water, his canoe h!t something and he heard a sharp cry and he felt a movement in the water.

Alabi thought he had hitted and maiden or woman in the community, so he dived into the water to see if he could help her but he didn't see anything.

Alabi searched and waited for hours to see if he could she the maiden he hitted, but he couldn't find any.

So while he was about to leave he heard a voice and he halted.

Am I that important that you desperately wanted to see me alabi?

Who are you please show yourself I think I have hurt you please allow me treat you with some herbs.

And then a fair with long hair and gold's all over her body woman arose from the water showing only her upper body.

Immediately alabi saw her, he knelt down to worship and apologies because he knows who she is.

Stand up alabi, I have nothing against you take this cowrie as my token of blessing to you, whenever you are about to fish, throw it into the water and it will send more fishes to you.

The water goddess blessed alabi and left.

After alabi encounter with the river goddess, he became more rich and famous to the extent the king gave him a title, lands, sheep's and even one of his daughter.

Then alabi friends and colleagues grew jealous of his sudden wealth and fame and decided to the source.

They were told by a priest that alabi was blessed by by the river goddess and she gave him a cowry that is the source of his wealth.

Alabi friends stole the cowry from alabi with the help one of his servants.

So they took the cowry to the river, immediately they throwed the cowry into the river, the river goddess showed up and took them with her into the river and they was never seen again by their families.
