After almost 20 years, an 8-year-old Texas girl’s abduction, rape and attempted murder was finally solved in 2009.
8-year-old JENNIFER SCHUETT remembered going to bed the night of August 9, 1990, only to awake in the arms of a strange man who placed her in his car.
The man told her his name was Dennis and that he was an undercover police officer before choking her into unconsciousness.
The next thing she knew, Dennis was dragging her by her ankles into an overgrown field. She heard him get back into his car and drive away, but when she tried to scream or move her head she realized her throat had been slit.
It wasn’t until the following day when a group of children playing Tag almost tripped over her feet that Jennifer was found still clinging to life in that field.
Despite recalling her abduction astoundingly well, remembering what his car looked like, his face, even the brand of cigarettes he smoked, Jennifer’s case went cold for almost 20 years, until DNA from some of the perpetrator’s discarded clothes near the crime scene were tested and matched a convicted felon named #DennisEarlBradford.
Dennis Earl Bradford had lived near Jennifer’s apartment in #Dickinson, Texas, back in 1990 and made a full confession when investigators finally tracked him down in 2009.
According to Bradford, he doesn’t know why he pulled into the parking lot at Jennifer’s apartment, or why he took her from her bedroom, but he allegedly spent the rest of his life haunted by what he’d done to such an innocent child.
Unfortunately, Dennis Bradford hung himself in his jail cell before he was able to go to trial for his crimes or hear Jennifer’s victim impact statement, which reads:
