Irene Miller’s story is just one example of how some women endured and overcame persecution during the Holocaust.

When Germany invaded her home country of Poland, Irene and her family were stranded in “No Man’s Land” trying to flee to Russia.

 Later, she was forcibly sent with her parents, Bella and Israel, and her sister Halina to a Siberian work camp. 

Starvation was a daily struggle, as Irene recalled: “My mother said to me, ‘Pretend that there's no war. What would you like for your present?’ So I told her I would like a big loaf of bread and that I can eat of it as much as I want.

 And my mother started crying. I absolutely couldn't understand what I did to make her cry.”

The family later traveled to Uzbekistan, where her father tragically died from illness. Out of desperation, Irene and her sister were sent to an orphanage, where her mother found work to stay close to them. 

“She helped out in whatever she could. It wasn't an official job and there was no pay, but she wanted to be with us. And I was glad to have her there, it was a great comfort.”

The three women survived the war together. Irene moved to Israel and later to the United States.

 A horrific video of two women being paraded naked on a road by a group of men in Manipur has been shared widely on social media, drawing massive condemnation and calls for action. The two women were gang-raped in a field, a tribal organisation has alleged. The incident happened on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, some 35 km from state capital Imphal, according a statement by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF). The execution of women by the Nazis during World War II This is a tribute to the amazing courage of so many young women during World War II who were put to death for plotting and fighting against the Nazis, as resistance fighters, partisans and activists in towns and concentration camps. It is estimated that more than 4,000 women of various ages were hanged by Nazi forces between 1939 and 1945. Many more were shot or guillotined and many were tortured before minimal or non-existent trials.  They could be sentenced to death by People's Courts and executed within prisons, by the commandants of concentration camps or by military commanders in the field and summarily executed, usually in public.  Just a twist- Davy Crockett's older sister, Effie Crockett was invited to help some mothers in the Muskogee Tribe.  Once she arrived in camp, Effie laughed at what she saw. The Muskogee Tribe had a custom of cradling their pappooses among the swaying branches of birch trees. This protected their babies from ground insects, the sun, and wild animals.  After first finding it funny, she soon learned all the great reasons for this practice and marveled at the beauty of it.  Effie watched the swaying and soothing motion of the topmost branches of the trees. The capture of brave Russian officer Rosinski This is a shocking image and I apologize in advance for sharing it, but here’s one that truly got to me… in Belarus, 1918, after WWI had already ended, the brave Russian officer Rosinski was captured by the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks tortured the captain, likely to get information out of the man, which he bravely refused to give. After that, they simply continued with the torture out of some sick sense of innate cruelty. He was ‘the enemy’ and he was at their mercy, so they brutally murdered their captive. The brave captain was emasculated. And anally impaled on a tree branch. All this while still alive.
