 Comanches took great pride and care of their hair. 

They wore their hair long, parted down in the middle and two braids were worn down the side. According to the Penatka elder Nemaruibetsi, the man's hair was daubed with a color of yellow using the finger from his forehead to the scalp lock.

 She maintained that a wonderful Comanche woman braided the scalp lock for the man. Fastened to the scalp lock was a long leather strip. 

The strip hung down to the ground which was decorated in fifty-cent pieces. As a treasured elder of the time, she maintained the hanging braided hair forelock was "just for pretty".

The Japanese had held two of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands for nearly a year—but now we’d won one back. The second would soon follow. The Battle of Attu was the only land battle fought in North America during World War II, yet somehow it has earned the tag, “The Forgotten Battle.” How can that be? We suffered more than 3,000 casualties, including 549 dead, at Attu. Shouldn’t more Americans know about it? And how did World War II make its way to the Aleutian Islands, anyway? The Span ish Tickle r This terrible device was used in most of Europe throughout the Middle Ages. It was a very simple instrument that was used to tear a victim's skin apart.  The victim would be naked and tied leaving him or her completely helpless. Then the torturers began the, sometimes public, act of mutilation. They often began with the limbs and slowly moved on to the chest, back, neck and finally the face. In short, the Spanish Tickler or Cat's Paw, is nothing but an extension to the torturer's hand, it had spikes which were sharp enough to tear through anything in their path. This instrument was very common in Spain, mostly during the Spanish Inquisition, although its use in France and England is well recorded, they often adopted different torture methods.   A revolutionary surgery took place on this day 64 years ago, changing the world of medicine as we know it.  For the first time ever, a machine was inserted into the human body in lieu of a body part that was no longer able to function correctly.  In 1958, two doctors, cardiac surgeon Ake Senning and medical device engineer Rune Elmqvist, implanted the first ever internal cardiac pacemaker into the body of Swedish engineer Arne Larsson. Larsson’s surgery was done to treat his Stokes-Adams syndrome, a condition that slows the heartbeat and decreases blood flow to the brain, resulting in potentially fatal fainting spells.  This revolutionary internal pacemaker was the size of a hockey puck and used two transistors that would deliver tiny shocks to the heart. Unfortunately, the first edition of this pacemaker would not last past 8 hours.
